The elegant and stylish dressage competitions are sure to have spectators cheering as the world's best dressage riders and their fantastic horses enter the arena at the ECCO FEI World Equestrian Games Herning (DEN) 2022.
The Grand Prix team competition opens the big event and spans the weekend of August 6-7, with the medal ceremony for the top three nations taking place on Sunday afternoon. And it's going to be an exciting competition! No doubt the medal winners from the Tokyo Olympics, Germany (gold), the United States (silver) and Great Britain (bronze), will try to get on the podium again. But they shouldn't feel too confident.
Hopes are high for a medal for the Danish dressage team on home soil, and Cathrine Dufour already has a good feeling about the Danes' form:
"The Danish team looks very strong at the moment. We have several athletes who are well established on their own horses, the team can be insanely sensational. But we've seen before that things can change just before the championships, but I'm very positive."
Hopefully all the riders will make it to the course in August, where the Grand Prix Special will take place on Monday, Aug. 8. August, the Grand Prix Special will take place, where the top 30 riders in the Grand Prix will compete for individual medals. On Tuesday, horses and riders will have a break to prepare for the final day of dressage competitions: Grand Prix Freestyle on Wednesday evening.
Freestyle under floodlight
Freestyle dressage is a crowd favorite for many spectators. The brilliance of music and movement, coupled with creativity and powerful horses, make the freestyle simply magnificent and unpredictable. At Herning2022, the freestyle of the top 15 riders will be held under floodlights on Wednesday evening, so dressage enthusiasts can enjoy a spectacular evening of the best dressage in the world.
Good facilities for horses and riders
The organizers of Herning2022, Jens Trabjerg (CEO Sport) and Casper Cassøe (CEO Operations), have set the bar high for the Championships. The World Championships horses are housed in permanent stables, and there are three warm-up arenas next to the Stutteri Ask Stadium, the main arena where the dressage and show jumping championships will be held. One warm-up arena is covered and has a size of 25 x 70 m, while the other two are 30 x 70 m in size. The riders can train inside the stable area. Here, four training areas of 20 x 60 m will be set up, as well as a lunging area and an area where the horses can be walked and have the possibility to be grazed by hand.
